About (meta)

Who

I am JDVM (he/him), though I have also gone by Perene or by Jon in other aspects of my life. I’m a mostly private person, though I love to talk about art in any form and my love for it. If there is anything you ever want to know, find an appropriate channel of your choice and reach out. Politically, I lean pretty far to the left. I don’t expect any real world politics and events to be explicitly represented in the comic, though my worldviews and experiences may show up in my artistic expression. Trans women are women. Human rights should never be legislated against or denied. The continued existence of someone not like you is not and should not be a political opinion or stance. Denying this existence is not politics. It is kissing-cousins to genocide and I have little patience for it.

I do have two major personal philosophies that define me:

  1. If you are hurting, you have my heart. If you are hurting someone else, I will revile you. And I have the capacity for both at the same time.
  2. Never attribute to malicious intent anything that can be explained by incompetence.

What

Bob is a narrative comic strip about robots. Oftentimes the jokes will take priority over the narrative. Sometimes the narrative gets in the way of the funny. That about sums it up.

When

Every. Single. Day. Bob will update every day of the week, every week of the year. Christmas, my birthday, the Queen’s Birthday, Arbor Day. You got a day? I got a comic.

Where

Bob will post on this website as well as most social media platforms. I don’t intend on making anything exclusive to any platform, but hiccups do happen from time to time. This site will always have everything in order. Everything is ready and scheduled well in advance, so even if there are issues, I should catch them before too long.

Why

This is my midlife crisis. Some people buy a car they can’t afford. Others cheat on their spouse. I decided to make a comic about robots and get a little weird with it sometimes. Life did a funny thing and changed my entire status quo which isn’t always conductive to good health. Sometimes you need to get out of the headspace of trauma and half-starved creative endeavors. Sometimes you need to jump into something worthwhile.

Long ago, a friend and I would draw these robots and tell each other stories about them. My 12 year old self has given me the gift of Bob. And my 40 year old self is giving my 12 year old self the comic that he could have never made without three additional decades of life experience.
